Boxer Pup

A healthy and well-behaved Boxer pup can only be obtained from a reputable and serious breeder who produces purebred dogs not for profit, but for the improvement of the breed. Such breeders do everything possible to prevent health and behavior disorders in their dogs and care much for their future well-being. Devoted and responsible breeders will not sell a puppy to a person who is not ready for responsible ownership. To find this out, a breeder asks the perspective buyers about the dog ownership experience, living conditions, and amount of free time.

A Boxer pup from a responsible breeder is sold with a pedigree, registration papers, and a health guarantee. Breeders should not charge extra for the documents. Pet quality puppies are sold already neutered or spayed or with a spay/neuter agreement. It prevents dogs with defects from producing low quality offspring. It’s almost impossible to foresee the future appearance and size of an adult dog when you see a puppy. Boxers differ much in size and body structure. The best indication of how the dog will look like is the size and appearance of its parents.

You can choose a Boxer pup when it’s 3-4 weeks old, but it should be taken to the new home only after it’s 7-8 weeks of age. While the puppy grows up and gets the basics of the canine socialization from the mother and the littermates, you can visit the kennel several times and watch how it interacts with humans and dogs. Playing with puppies helps determine the right puppy for you. The breeder knows much on the personality of every puppy in a litter and can help with making the right choice.

Puppy training and socializing should start as soon as you bring it home. Training sessions should be fun and not too long. A Boxer pup is usually easy to housebreak, but for the first month or two the owners have to take it out every 3-4 hours, even at night. A puppy kindergarten will be a useful experience for a Boxer pup where it will socialize around other puppies and humans.
